Dance

Ok so this is somewhat belated since the performance was a month ago.

But NUS dance was great and it had so many Jitterbugs teachers and dancers which made the performance more exhilarating to watch pp you know dance. As well as meeting so many familiar faces in the audience, even an ex-pahramcy classmate who didn't make it to Swan lake with you.

The 1st dance had my jazz teacher and it was interesting tho after a while the cooing looks and "Shsshhhh" gets to you. But the choas part was great esp initiall where she had to fall side to side on the drum boom to initiate the start of choas. It was very convincing and sent me wincing each time she jerks to the floor -- ouchie for those knees man!

Hated the next 2 pieces - one was hip hop, the other some weird funeral ethnic thing - totally BORING!

The last half after the interval was what it was all about! Totally cool choreo and technique esp Zarky's dance. You just sit there in awe throughout the whole thing with your mouth going "Ooh.. Ooo.." The fluidity, the perfectness of those turns -- which you know from your own experience are not an easy feat -- just totally sweeps you away. Totally yummy performance man!
Of course it helps that my GF is all snuggled up at my side as well.

Zarky's choreo had 3 main dancers dressed in green, mauve and i think it was red? And the supporting dancers were in white. The whole thing was fabulously Les as well... mmm.

Dance is my passion -- it fills you with happiness.. the song just carrys you along.
I'll dance till mt kness die and even after. It's too precious a something to give up.

I miss my girl alot today. We had an argument. It sucks.

William Froysthe

Watched this group perform on Monday : i think William Froysthe used to lead the frankfurt ballet group, but was expelled due to his alternative works... He took part? of the group with him, and they perform around the world a mixture of installation/modern dance/theater. The one we watched last night was a theater cum dance. The topic was conflicts in homosexual relationships. The protagonists were a gay and a lesbian, two stories running in parallel.

Many parts of the monologues were very poetic (and very american)... beautiful enough to bring tears to the eyes. On top of that, they were using music from Bach (yes! with a live pianist).

The piece was organized such : the stage was split into different sections ("rooms") with true walls ... so it was not possible to view some of the rooms even. To make up for that, there were videocams everywhere, and at the audience, 8 projection tvscreens were installed (somewhat like chandliers..). And so the camera work was simply fab. Beautiful angles, where one could capture the faces, the people, the dance. Some parts of the play, there was even a life kaleidoscope effect of people, signifying conflicts. They also used fade in/out and fade into technics, and delay technics. It was definitely pleasing to the eye :).

The modern dance was further accentuated that we could see 1. from the stage, and 2. from a different angle from the projection screens :). Brutally modern though.

On part that I kinda liked was a scene where the guy is in a hidden room (so we only see from the projection screen), and on a bed. At some point things didnt seem like they were "normal" :) the water bottle was standing at an angle... at some point, he pulls at the bed and it collapses :) a cloth! :) This was so funny :).

So I thoroughly enjoyed myself, (not sure abt the people who went along, at least Julian and Almut mentioned that they were interested in going to another installation by them). Well, they are playing at the Hauptbahnhof (I call it an installation), so I think post-brunch activity is settled :) ! And! I will bring my camara!

John Gabriel Borkmann

Monday 101005 -- @ Schauspielhaus Zuerich
Henrik Ibsen's JGB directed by Barbara Frey.

Actually, it occurs to me that I am not at all familiar with the man:
googled selected works: I recognize doll's house and peer gynt
when we dead awaken sounds vaguely familiar,

So JGB : abt reliance of r/s. There are 3 main chars, and 5 minor chars.
JGB, his wife gunhild and her sis ella
3 Characters.
I was impressed by the emotional dependency of Gunhild performed by Barbara Nuesse.
The nervousness was wonderfully accentuated.

Generally, the play was more abt content: one had to follow the emotional development
4 acts in 3 settings:
was cool that jgb's room "suppresses" that of gunhild... the stage was doubly tiered, with jgb's being elevated in and out of sight as the act requires.
In the street scene, with the falling snowflakes, there was this bizarre optical illusion as if the room was elongating (more like heightening).

Happy End was irritating.. I wonder. maybe I have become too morbid for happy ends.

Do something different each day

So... Sabine thought I was crazy, it has been almost 2 years ago, when the motto of my life was:
1. Do something different each day.

It helped me to get out of depression.

The motto of 5 years ago was:
2. Find something beautiful each day.

The therapy of Mireille was:
3. We will tell each other 1 good thing and 1 bad thing each day.

So 2. is good for mild cases... 1. is good for serious cases... 3. is good only if Mireille is there...

I am now on 1. : Proud of myself:-- Watch Lady Macbeth of Minsk last night :)

can i

believe again?

can i ever believe that love is forever?
i really wonder

will my wounded heart let me see?

"i want u only, forever" -- it's too easily said
and easily taken back

wat is forever if u dun believe that love encompasses all?
how can u tell me i love u or i want u forever?
it's not true.

can i ever let myself believe again?

i hope so...
someday.

Sommernachttraum

Midsummernight dream :

Thursday past, was delighting on Mendelssohn's Midsummernight dream :).

Yes, Shakespeare's MSND, but :) speechless :).

The dancing was lovely, there was this huge mix between classic and modern dance. The story telling mostly was classical form, but the introduction and end were these modern dances -- constumes included. Cant really tell which was better ... the classical form is more obvious, possibly the beautiful style. The modern form was however provocative and more interesting. The contrast between both brings out the strengths of both forms.

Furthermore they actually integrated theater/comedy with the actual ballet..

Ok i think this is pointless... it is already more than a week ago... language and memory fail me... I should be more uptodate...

One last dance with u ...

Why are we doing this
Do you believe in us
Can u really accept me for who I am

One last dance with you
I hurt a hole within
Why can't you love all of me

Love is short, forgetting is long
Love encompasses all
Doesn't it???
DOESN'T IT?

Mine does...
Mine
Does

Dun give up
I need you 'cos I love you

Believe.
Please ...

Hold me.
Just hold me and you'll believe.

Nothing can change what I feel
Why not you too?

If it's precious ...
It's worth fighting for

It's worth hurting for.
It's worth waiting for.

Love is all encompassing.

Isn't it?
