NYC crazy days.

I went only 2 days after the snowstorm. It was freezing cold (more like the wind chill), but the visit was touristically successful. Got tics for NYphil. (great conduting), watched jazz band, went for a standup comedy, MET opera. Visited museums without end... but also shopped till I dropped, now i am broke :)

1. Nyphil. Lorin Maazel was conducting... playing was lovely (duh!), soloist was Gil Shaham. One very marked difference, I think european performers might need less theater :) Shaham played beautifully, like a dream. It was really funny that he was hoppingaround the stage though :) , moving steps forward and backwards. Oh he played Bruch.vio con. 1. The orch played Var. on a Theme of Haydn (1873) by Brahms, Var. for orch (1955) elliott carter (the composer came on stage. ... ) dont remember this though..i should blog more recent stuff.., plus some hungarian zoltan kodaly dances of galanta (very very char. hungarian :))
Ok rest in cut paste form (MET, hv to get the cD, am so damn broke though!!)

Last minute panic

:) So a short update before I leave for new york :).

This week went like lightning...

Hmmm watch Iwanov (Anton Chekov) ... and was fantastically heavy (as the play itself is). Almost forgot about the play even though I read it 2 years ago... The performance was by schauspielhaus Bochum, which has lots of fun with music (or at least I noticed). And obviously, I was quite pleased by the high german :).... What was nice was also the use of videos / projectors as windows, overlapping of real-time and prerecordings...

Also was at la finta garderinia... Hanoncourt did a great job at conducting, the singing was ok, but the music in the piece was lovely, at times a little draggy though..

otherwise, spent the week doing nothing just feeling stressed :(.

A week of peace?

So, this week (i see, no blogs for a very long time... ) has been spent meditating. After discussing with Vijay, it can be concluded, that too many people were unhappy, and depressed for too long a time. We should all look more on the brighter side of life :).

So 2 happy things happened today : One I woke up in the morning and the sky was completely blue... which prompted me to buy some cake to celebrate :) Which I so did when I met Nicoleta, and I also offered a slice to the miss fiji islands who serves us food at the cafeteria :). Two : I played badminton (andreas spells it badmington, i find it funny)... and well, we did win quite nicely :) more like andreas did most of the work, but, i am claiming the credit anyway...

was sick entire of last week :( and missed the beaux art trios (sigh), but caught the carmina quartett (NEVER attend them, they are so bad, the first violin sounded bad).... and made up for it by going for the leipziger quartett... :) they are cool, beautiful balance.

This week and next, I am going a break from all the arty farty .. (too much work, plus!! I am leaving for nyc on thursdya to join mr monkey for vacation:) we are going museum hopping! i think I will visit moma, guggenheims, and met... :) Unfortunately, my ipod-shuffle just died on me 2 days ago, i am so heart broken... maybe it is an excuse to get an i-nano :)...

need chocolates (opps, am allergic :().. Vijay is allergic to honey, he says, it makes his throat-ear tract itch :) who believes?
