Food Trip
SYDNEY
* FOOD : Prev known as SUPER BOWL
Location : Chinatown (opp baskin robins)
A used-to be fav with it's flavourful century egg porridge, xo pipi and fujian fried rice, falls flat with its change in name and likely change in management/chef.
Last time I will EVER eat here.
*FOOD : Aporto Chicken
Location : Oxford St (has other branches as well)
Previously mediocre, currently excellent with its chilli sauce roast chicken. Thumbs up for this branch which is also 24hours!!!
nb. Melb QV branch not as good, Melb central's is average.
*FOOD : Lindt Cafe
Location : Darling Harbour (branches at Martin pl & Cir Quay)
Highly and repeatedly recommended by Surolan - it was a MUST try esp when one is grouchy and in need of pampering. The Ice coffee (dark) was delectable! Uniquely Lindt choc! The Ice Mocha, on the other hand, was average.
MELBOURNE
*FOOD : Mekong
Location : City, along Swanston st
Beef Special - highly popular amongst the asian student population, this big bowl of vietnamese noodle (choice of glass or egg noodle) comes with an assortment of beef parts, adorned with a side dish of raw bean sprouts and thai basil leaves. With the need to fully cook its semi raw beef and veg, this dish is only satisfactory when served pipping hot. Needless to say, mine was luke warm, thus sadly unappetising. The brisket was also of a gooey consistency, lacking the flavour usually found in chinese beef brisket noodles. The only highlight was a tube-like thing in each of our bowls. Pasty and white, we concluded it to be the marrow? Looked more like spinal cord to me though. It was only interesting, not yummy.
Despite my lack of enthusiasm, this dining was packed.
*FOOD : Borek Spicy Lamb
Location : QV Market
Flat hot lamb wraps, just the right size for a meal. Yummy and delicious over and over again. Esp on a cold, autumy day! :)
MY FAVOURITE!
*FOOD : Supper Inn
Location : Alley of chinatown
Book in advance when possible as the crowd is horrendous due to its miniscule venue, esp at meal times. A replica of HK's eating environment, do not bring excess baggage. If u have to have a purse, ensure that it is what it's called -- purse-size! With maximum tables packed per area sq, u are literally dining with the entire room, and listening in as well.
Suggested by my bro for it's good tofu, we ventured there an evening for dinner. And listed on the menu were at least 3 different sort of beancurd!!! Bearing in mind the next time to obtain more specifics, we proceeded to order the sutffed beancurd, salt/pepper quail and beef horfun. The quail was quite yummy with one half tasting like roast chicken, and the other half, duck. Intentional or not, it was good. Beef horfun - average but I wouldn't be in a hurry to reorder it again. Now, the beancurd is an enigma. It tasted average on set, but when taken home and reheated the next day - it was yummy. Perhaps the way to go, and to avoid the waiting is to do a takeaway in the future.
*FOOD : GOGO Sushi
Location : City, Swanston st
Boring, limited selection. Salmon in almost every presentation. Bones in sashimi!! ICKS!
*FOOD : Brunetti
Location : Carlton, Lygon st
Displays a wide array of seemingly mouthwatering cakes, sweets and pastries but they are usually what they are - seemingly.
Affagato choc, a vanilla ice-cream in thick hot choc 'float'. Interesting. Nice when eaten with mouthfuls of ice-cream.
Mini blackforest, the last and almost stale piece but the huge berries almost make up for it.
Pear
*FOOD : Sea Salt
Location : Just outside Lygon Court
Good chips. Fish can be addictive if one likes fish... (whispers "i do not").
Has great Nigiri and handrolls, goes for half price about 8pm. Beware the extra spicy wasabi - it is not like the sakae ones.
*FOOD : Little Italy
Location : Lygon St
Have not tried this again recently but 10years ago, it had great ribs. Order just ONE set - it's enuff to feed 2-3pp.
GELATO
Lygon has since, in the past 10years, sprouted at least 5 'gelaterias'. Six if one includes NZ ice-cream but then ice-cream is not really gelato is it. Gelato is also available at the many italian/ non-italian food places along the same road - choice of desert after a main course.
Sampling & review
1. Freddo's - Great rocher - has LOTS of crunchy bits, very filling. Has durian!
2. Original - Unsmiling scoopers. Great pear. Flavours still in italian. Great that one can have 3 flavours even for the small. Note to self - do not get the choc/orange or pistachio (tastes like almond) again.
3. Gelato cafe - average.
4. ?? - Haven't tried this one yet.
5. Gelatissimo - appears to be the most costly. Has hot gelato drinks. Not too keen to try since a taste at Lido's but judgement is reserved.
WISH LIST - Places to dine in the future.

Has a great choc arrangement that would entice even non-choc lovers. The choc bars looked really heavenly.

Thots...
Suicides are not planned
Tat's why no one saw it coming
It happens out of the blue...
An inspiration.
There is an emotion platform
where everything is at standstill
where your every feeling freezes
leaving only stoned dead.
The more repeated the visits
the easier it is to stay
then it's not even voluntary.
It is like glass
encased
wholly.
I think hurried, repeated kisses is the only way out b4...
it's permanent.
Drowning
Is it painful?
If i inhale the deep blue sea
would i be at...
peace?

Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2008
PRINCESS CABARET

Once upon a time, seven young women with backgrounds in comedy, musicals and impro came to know and love those meek and male-dependent icons - the Disney Princesses.
Now, through darkly satirical, fast-paced sketches and polished song and dance numbers they explore old stereotypes and their nostalgia for childhood heroines.
Ratings by Sparrow & Me : EXCELLENT!!
After getting LOST TWICE, and nearly ending up at a smokey, beery, local rock concert... we finally found Imperial "hotel" where this was said to be held. That is, if one's definition of a hotel is a BAR with some kinky rooms upstars! However, despite our misadventures which seriously places the ticker collector's job on the line (they checked out our ticks and still let us into the WRONG VENUE!!) and the tiny tiny venue... we had a BLAST! The 'twisty' ending with Jas and Cindy crooning to "A WHOLE NEW GIRL..." just about wraps it all up - it was as though the entire performance was specially catered to us . Our fav was pretty Cindy with the beautiful voice, who also had the perfect intonation for "WHY DUN U JUST DIE!"... followed by the TREE who had no legs, mouth or feet. Snowwhite was perfectly freako and I think Tinkerbell had perfect Tink-hair.
5***** to this. And to anyone who's in Melb right now, go catch it - totally worth the $15 (student price).
